Space Habitats Technical Committee

Space Habitiats
Technical Committee

The Space Habitats Technical Committee has a broader role than many of its siblings in the Advanced Programs Directorate. This committee documents information about concepts for the development of spaceborne habitats, or space colonies such as envisioned by the Space Studies Institute and the L5 Society in the 1970's. They take this research farther, estimating the type and amount of lunar material that will be used for construction of space habitats throughout the next century and beyond. They define the customer for the lunar community's mining, metals, chemical, electronics, and other industries. This information feeds into the Advanced Planning Technical Committee to forecast the future of the lunar community.
