This is a query to everyone: Who knows someone who has real experience in mass-marketing, someone who would be happy to volunteer some of that talent to the Artemis Society?
In Artemis Digest V01 #146, Richard Perry commented, "Until we have a very public and well-known history of success in space itself, image is critical. Marketing is everything to the unknown and/or unproven."
This is true; marketing is the key to selling this Project. To make it work, we have to market to a worldwide audience. The understanding of the mass market and individual audiences in countries all around the world is going to take a lot of marketing talent.
Here on the Internet, with our web sites and mailing lists and newsgroups, we're telling the story to a very narrowly defined, heavily filtered audience. Currently only 1 in 50 homes in the United States has access to the Internet; that's a powerful filter. Extrapolating that statistic to the whole world, we might estimate that our audience today at its best could be only 1 out of 1,000 people on the Earth.
Think about yourself. You are a person of vision, someone who sees the power of electronic communication, or you wouldn't be reading this right now. Your interest in the Artemis Project is wonderful -- if people with your vision didn't intuitively see the reasons for doing this and how it works, we wouldn't have a program at all.
But to put the whole project together, our outreach must extend far beyond the Internet and people who have the vision to get on-line. We have to reach people from the Circular Quay to the Champs Elysses.
The credibility of the Artemis Project, and its ultimate success, depend on our ability to do that. Who can help?
