SSTO Passenger and Support Mass
Component | Mass in lbm |
Passenger and baggage | 165 |
Emergency gear | 40 |
ELCS equipment | 20 |
Total Consumables | 55 |
Seat | 42 |
Total | 322 |
A 150-passenger airliner has 3 flight attendants, a ratio of 1:50. So
it's not unreasonable to assume 4 flight attendants for 50 people. That
lets the attendants work in shifts (it's a long flight) at a ratio of
1:25, plus the two pilots. We have to assume our passengers will have a
bit of horse sense and enough training to survive the trip.
So, with 56 people and the above requirements, the total mass is:
Component | Mass in lbm |
Passenger and baggage | 9240 |
Emergency gear | 2240 |
ELCS equipment | 1120 |
Total Consumables | 3080 |
Seat | 2352 |
Total | 18032 |
