EVA Handrails
There will have to be EVA handrails on the outside of the Reference
Mission spacecraft, to aid the crew in moving about the spacecraft stack
when assembling the stack or on other EVAs.
The handrails are used on other vehicles like the space shuttle cargo
bay, and on the space station Mir. The handrails are yellow, and held up by
stanchions about 2.5" (6 cm) high, or just high engouh to fit a suited hand
under.
The SPACEHAB
modules have a flat surface, on one side, for shuttle payload
integration requirements.
The EVA handrails will be along the edges of the flat wall of the
pressure vessel.
